01/ ABOUT US / Differentiators

The corporate structure and business model of FSI is truly unique within the marketplace for several reasons:

  • We are not bank owned; we have a strong and diversified group of affiliated companies. We are absolutely independent and free of any potential conflicts in the services we provide. We have a large Client base with a varied product offering, allowing FSI to leverage operational system and business process synergies for superior efficiencies. This results in cost containment and improved service levels for our Clients.
  • FSI uses proprietary software for both Fund Valuation and Unitholder Recordkeeping. Having in-house technology allows FSI to be highly flexible in accommodating the unique administrative needs of our Clients. Our systems provide a high level of built-in redundancy, continual development and enhancement releases, and substantial technical support resources.
  • FSI has engaged PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) to perform an audit of our internal controls. The control tests are conducted annually, and a formal Canadian Standard on Assurance Engagements Reporting on Controls at a Service Organization (CSAE 3416, previously the CICA s.5970) is produced on an annual basis. In addition to satisfying fund auditor requirements for ‘control’ tests, FSI having a CSAE 3416 can also decrease the number of audit samples required for fund- specific ‘substantive’ testing, and save our Clients time and the associated audit costs. All historical reports have been unqualified (i.e. no exceptions were noted).
  • We have streamlined our operations to reduce bureaucracy, redundancy, and overhead. This translates to competitive pricing and service excellence for our Clients'. We are solution oriented at all times, and look at all our services from the perspective of the Client. We pride ourselves on being creative, open to change, and able to implement on demand.
  • We foster a culture of cooperation and teamwork with our Clients through a close working relationship. We are nimble, flexible, and have an experienced team able to add value and quickly develop and implement creative solutions. We recognize each Client will have unique needs, and should not all be expected to fit into one standard FSI process.
